Submissions for our Fall 2023 issue are now OPEN.

We only accept submissions from undergraduate and graduate students in the state of North Carolina (public, private, and community colleges) during our fall and spring submission periods. 



Atlantis, founded in 1971, is UNCW’s student-run literary arts magazine and a registered student organization. The magazine publishes two print issues and one online edition per year.


 

The training for this position begins the spring semester 2024, and the position starts summer 2024 with stipends starting in the fall. This position is renewable. Atlantis is currently hiring for poetry, fiction, nonfiction, art, photography and layout editors. You can apply for multiple positions. 


 

General Qualifications

· Currently enrolled as a UNCW student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 

· Good writing and communication skills

· Ability to work well in groups

· Committed to attending weekly meetings, release parties, and other Atlantis events.

· Experience with Submittable, Google Drive, and Microsoft Word (Track Changes) is preferred but not required



Copy Editor

· Edits all written submission to be published in each issue of Atlantis for grammar and style.

· Reviews and edits all written submissions prior to the magazine’s layout, and contacts contributors, as needed, to discuss and approve changes


REQUIRED SKILLS.

· Excellent self-organization and record-keeping.

· Skilled in precise writing, grammar, and editing.

· Attention to Detail

· Familiarity with Chicago Magazine of Style

· Communication Skills


Managing Editor
· Acts as the liaison between volunteer members, contributors, and the Editor in Chief.

· Ensures the maintenance of a searchable and up-to-date online archive of past issues of Atlantis.

· Writes press releases for events, announcements, and other promotional materials.

· Ensures the timely online publication of new material.

· Sends magazines to out-of-town contributors.

· Takes minutes and attendance at all meetings.

· Assists the Editor in Chief with planning of release parties.

· Contacts contributors for license agreements and keeps track of them.

· Contacts contributors for biographies.

· Organizational skills

· Ability to work well in groups
